Adding Depth and Delight
This blog is entirely inspirational for texture crafters, mixed media crafters and/or paper crafters
These images are of the work of a good friend Elizabeth Moon. She never sells her work or puts it into exhibitions and shows; rather she creates for her own enjoyment. She has created scores of ‘books’ using her own designs and artwork, and explored numerous creative techniques to add depth and dimension and endless possibilities to her creations.
I am keen to suggest that this work could inspire paper crafters, using Liz’s ideas for your scrapbooking or card making work. Here she has used block print after having sketched some poppy heads

She uses many ideas that she collects from books and here she is using a pressed seed stem that could either be block printed or used per se on paper
Liz is fond of using beautifully textured paper for her designs, and then adding stitching and/or other texture.
Far right:
Here she has used a photograph mounted onto paper and then added delicate fabrics. She writes herself notes on what she has done and how she has done it.

Liz does a lot of machine (and hand) stitching. You will see that her predilection for creating images from plants and birds is frequently visible

I am particularly attracted to this little book she has created, not the least the consistently gentle colour scheme. On the right is one of the many pages.

But she is not averse to using colour, as she shows on the cover of this book and this example from inside it.

Finally, from this book, she illustrates some of her multi media ideas:

I could have shown you many more from the hundreds of pieces she has produced, but I chose these few examples as a spark – not instruction. There’s no right way to build texture, so if you are inspired by all these excellent ideas, experiment freely, and make something that feels your own.
