Your mind ‘files’ your thoughts

What I am going to tell you is a revelation! You may, or may not know, that your mind ‘files’ your thoughts!

This information requires that you spend some time alone without any interruption so that you can concentrate.

We all use visual images as representations, some more than others. Some may just have ‘feelings’ but they are probably associated with visual representations. For this exercise we are concentrating on the visual representations.

I simply want you to imagine a person (or creature) that you love very much. When you do that notice the image that you see when you have your eyes closed. Notice where it is in your visual field. Is the image straight in front of you or to one side – is it to the left or to the right if it is to one side? How far away from your eyes is the image? Is it near to your head or a distance away? Is it a metre away or even much further than that? It may be almost on your nose! Be clear about where it is in your imagination.

When this is new to you it will be very strange.

Having established where that person or animal is in your visual image, now I want you to create a different image. This one is very different – it is someone (or a creature) that you dislike intensely (for me it is a snake!) and notice where that image is. Is that in front of you, or to the left or the right – or it might even be behind you? Is it a distance away from you or is it near to you? Establish where the image is.

You will discover that this image is represented in a different place from your previous image.

You might now like to experiment by thinking of other people or creatures and noticing where you ‘file’ them when creating images.
